Route overview

Start near the grassy area by Rady’s Shell amphitheater. From there, walk north along the paved harbor path. Along the way, kids can watch oversized yachts and boats, keeping the walk interesting from start to finish.

The route passes major waterfront landmarks, including the USS Midway aircraft carrier and the Star of India, the world’s oldest active sailing ship.

Continue through Seaport Village, where families can stop for a carousel ride, snacks, or a restroom break. You can also stop at the snack bar at Broadway Landing, where cruise ships are sometimes docked.

Continue north to Waterfront Park.

Important parking tip

Always check for events at Rady’s Shell before heading out. During events, parking lots may be closed, making parking much more difficult.

Why Waterfront Park is such a great finish

Waterfront Park is one of the best family-friendly parks in downtown San Diego. There is a playground, restrooms, benches for parents, and incredible views of the harbor and Coronado Bridge.

In warmer weather, the fountains are a huge highlight for kids.

Warm-weather tip: Bring swimsuits and towels so kids can play in the fountains at Waterfront Park.
