Route overview

From Fanuel Street Park, continue by following the sidewalk to Maruta Gardner Playground at Bonita Cove. There are restrooms there as well, making it another family-friendly stopping point.
Built-in options for different ages
One of the best things about this outing is how flexible it is. Families with younger children can walk to Fanuel Street Park and back for a shorter version. Families with stroller-age kids or older kids on bikes can continue on to Bonita Cove for a longer outing.
Parent-friendly details
Both Fanuel Street Park and Maruta Gardner Playground give parents places to sit and relax while kids play. At Maruta Gardner Playground, there is also a grassy area overlooking Bonita Cove that makes this stop feel especially open and enjoyable.
Parent tips
- Bring food and snacks, since there are not many affordable restaurant options along the route that are especially convenient for families.
- Be mindful of other people using the path, especially cyclists and skaters.
- If you are not sure how far your kids can comfortably go, use Fanuel Street Park as your turnaround point.
- This outing works well year-round thanks to San Diego’s mild climate.
